Katie Cruel
A new version of Katie Cruel is out now with a new visualizer
This is the third single from my upcoming album, Formless.
Katie Cruel is in The New York Times on their playlist
This song is of Scotland & Irish decent and is hundreds of years old. Katie Cruel is related to many songs including “The Lightbob’s Lassie” presumably about a sex worker travelling with infantry soldiers. It is also related to
“I know where I’m going.” Which I first heard from Odetta.
I first heard Karen Dalton’s version of Katie Cruel and fell in love.
“If I was where I would be, then I’d be where I am not. Here I am where I must be, Where that I would, I cannot.”
I first recorded it in Spain with some dear friends for Ribbon Vine about 13 years ago.
I’m so excited to share this new take on such a legendary song! Shout out to Fire Draw Near for adding it to an episode last month and to Peter Broderick who did a whole episode dedicated to this song with me for his series One Song.
